Philip Larkin was born in 1922 in Coventry, England. He attended St. John’s College, Oxford. His first book of poetry, The North Ship, was published in 1945 and, though not particularly strong on its own, is notable insofar as certain passages foreshadow the unique sensibility and maturity that characterizes his later work. In 1946, Larkin discovered the poetry of Thomas Hardy and became a great admirer of his poetry, learning from Hardy how to make the commonplace and often dreary details of his life the basis for extremely tough, unsparing, and memorable poems.

Donald Justice born August 12, 1925, Miami, Florida, U.S. died August 6, 2004, Iowa City, Iowa.   American poet and editor best known for finely crafted verse that frequently illuminates the pain of loss and the desolation of an unlived life. Educated at the University of Miami (B.A., 1945), the University of North Carolina (M.A., 1947), and the University of Iowa in Iowa City (Ph.D., 1954), Justice taught English and writing at several American universities and from 1982 through 1992 was a professor of English at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder (n. 31 mai, 1945 - d. 10 iunie, 1982) - regizor, scenarist şi actor german. Fassbinder a fost unul dintre membrii reprezentativi ai Noului Cinema German. De la vârsta de 21 de ani, Fassbinder a făcut aproape 40 de filme în 15 ani de carieră, plus numeroase piese de teatru şi drame TV. Lucrând simultan în teatru şi film, cineastul şi-a creat propriul stil din fuziunea celor două forme de artă. Primele sale 10 filme sunt caracterizate printr-un “self-conscious and assertive formalism”. Influenţat de Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Marie Straub şi de teoriile lui Bertolt Brecht, aceste filme sunt de un stil auster şi minimalist. În toată această perioadă Fassbinder şi-a dezvoltat propriile metode rapide de lucru. În cea mai prolifică perioadă a sa, cineastul german a făcut filme controversate despre “sălbăticia” umană, cum sunt Pioneers in Ingolstadt (1971) şi Whity (1971). 

Cam în perioada în care lucra la ultimul său film, Querelle (1982), se pare că acesta devenise dependent de cantităţi mari de droguri şi alcool pentru a-şi menţine stilul original. Această dependenţă va fi în final şi cauza morţii sale subite - infarct datorat unei interacţiuni letale dintre somnifere şi cocaină. Cei ce l-au găsit mort au precizat că regizorul avea lângă el scenariul ce avea să devină următorul său film, Rosa Luxemburg.
